Dr. Jason Etherton – Etherton Family Dentistry
I grew up in the Valley and had a good childhood here. The Valley gave me lots of opportunities in sports and in education. The area of the Valley was great for hunting, fishing, bike riding, hiking, and other outdoor sports. After graduating from Valley High School, I received my bachelor’s degree from Auburn University. I then was accepted into The University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham, Alabama. After completing my doctorate in dentistry, my wife and I decided to move back to the Valley to raise our children and begin my dental practice.
All of our children graduated from Valley High School. They were all accepted into college and they all received scholarships. Valley High School prepared them for college just as it had for me. My wife and I are glad that we raised our children in the loving environment that the Valley provided. They say it takes a village to raise a child and the Valley was a great village for our children. Soon after my wife and I had moved back to the Valley area from dental school the cotton mills began to close. We thought that maybe we had made a mistake in choosing to move back here. But after a few years, KIA announced they were coming to West Point and our area began to grow again. Since then we have seen lots of growth and change in a positive way. Point University has moved into our area and has provided a cultural lift for the Valley as well. Living and working here has been a great experience.
My wife and I have found many ways to give back to the community that has given so much to us. My wife and I have been active in our church and have worked with the youth program for many years. I have served the city of Valley on the city’s planning commission for several years. I have always enjoyed coaching youth football at the recreational level and several years ago I became qualified to coach for the public school. I am now an assistant coach for Valley High School’s ninth grade team. My wife and I have given pumpkins to the students at Lafayette Lanier Elementary school every year for their fall festival through our church.
The Valley has provided so much for my family and business over the years along with giving us many opportunities to give back. We are proud to live and work in the Valley.
